Case Barnett, Barnett's son, said he wanted to become a lawyer after watching his dad in trial in the Briseno/Rodney King trial.
"What separates him from everyone else is his dedication to the art of trying a case," said Case Barnett. "He thinks about a case from every possible angle. ... No one in the courtroom has a better handle of the facts. After he gains this understanding ... he will sit outside, usually with a cigar, and just think. He thinks about the story he is going to tell and how he is going to tell it. He thinks about witnesses and how to handle them. He thinks about his closing argument and how he is going to deliver it."
